![]() When I was 15 years old I was just becoming an aspiring landscape artist. I loved watching Bob Ross on PBS swish his brush across his canvas and create his happy magical worlds and they could be whatever he wanted them to be. He would say, "you have the power to move mountains!" and "not to worry about little splotches, they were happy little accidents! Just make this dribble into a bush." Instantly, a bush would appear on his canvas! I smile today, in remembrance at his exuberance. I had those words embedded into my heart and soul since an early age and realized that they are not just for painting but useful in your daily life too! You don't have to be a painter to create your dreams, or have a canvas. You can use visualization techniques. It can be your own personal happy place, your sanctuary from stress. You can move mountains, add lakes, rivers, flowers, a beach, etc. Only even more powerful, you have the use of all of your senses, so cue the sounds of soft waves breaking along a shoreline or sea gulls crying. Smell the sweet fragrance of magnolia blossoms in the air. Feel the sunshine’s warmth kissing your cheek and the sand squish between your toes as you step out onto your own private beach. If someone or something does interrupt you; relax. Just take a deep breath, and release. You can always easily return, at any time, from any place you may be. Just know that you have the power to control and change whatever happens in your visualization. You can use visualizations to see yourself fulfilling a goal you have set for yourself. Completely immerse yourself into the moment of achievement and use all of your senses. Not only does it increase your confidence in yourself, but it will increase your motivation in obtaining that goal. Have to make a choice? Not sure which path to take? Visualize yourself actively following each goal path to completion, using all of your senses. Which goal visualization had the most clarity and brought the most motivation? List that higher on your priority list! Use visualizations to problem solve. Run an event or dilemma through your visualization process. Completely immerse all your senses to discover and learn where something may have gone awry. Then, you can run scenarios of other optional outcomes. Visualizations are limitless but are a powerful resource tool in achieving success in your life. Visualization is not just daydreaming. Your subconscious mind often has a clearer insight into what you really want and what you will really contribute to achieve a goal. Using this technique, you are able to access that insight without necessarily putting yourself into hypnosis state. So with a smile, grab some imaginary brushes, dab some colorful paint on a palette, set your canvas on your subconscious mind and move some mountains!
